Our Process
Agave
100% Blue Weber
Masuave uses only 100% Blue Weber Agave. Grown in the highlands of Jalisco, this amazing plant requires a growth cycle of up to 12 years. The mineral-rich soil blends well with the agave-friendly climate –cool temperatures with moderate precipitation. Using only natural fertilizers, the agave is handpicked at peak ripeness.
Harvesting
From The Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico
The altitude and atmosphere of the highlands slows down the maturity of the agave. This results in higher sugar content, which in turn, delivers a fruiter, more delicate aroma than plants grown elsewhere. Highland agave produces tequila that is lighter with a lower viscosity. The experienced palate can expect a fresh, rounded flavor with subtle tones of the naturally sweet roasted agave.
Roasting
In Traditional Brick Ovens
No glycerin, artificial colors, pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals can be found anywhere in our process. After being hand-chopped, our agave pinas are slow roasted in brick ovens to extract the most flavor. The liquid known as aguamiel, or honey water, is then fermented for three days to develop our unique tasting profile. We choose only the finest seasoned casks and barrels for our tequila to ferment.
Distillation
Proprietary Cold-Filtration System
Our distillation process ranges from cold-filtered and triple distilled for our Blanco to a double-distillation for our Reposado and Anejo. Multiple distillation ensures that our tequila is low in impurities, high in luxurious flavor. Masuave’s proprietary cold-filtration distilling system delivers a tempered, sophisticated sensation that simply ignites the taste buds.
Aging
Sophisticated Taste
With age comes taste— sophisticated taste. And just as wine’s friend is time, so is tequila’s. Our Reposado is aged in seasoned whisky barrels and new American White Oak casks for nine months. Aged for 18 months is our Anejo tequila which is also aged in seasoned whisky barrels and new American White Oak casks. Even our Blanco is aged in White Oak barrels for 6 days. Our Reposado and Anejo tequilas are aged longer than the industry standards, and we believe this delicate resting period is worth the wait. The result is a mature, robust union that delights both the tequila enthusiast’s palate as well as the novice.
